After 12 years of absence, a writer goes back to his home town, planning on announcing his upcoming death to his family.
Xavier Dolan’s Canadian contender for the Palme d’Or features an A-list cast of French actors tearing into each other over long-simmering family conflicts. This adaptation of a stage play by France’s Jean-Luc Lagarce is about a writer named Louis (Gaspard Ulliel), who, having learned he’s suffering from a terminal illness, decides to return to the hometown he quit 12 years earlier.
He wants to break the bad news in person to his neglected family: mother Martine (Nathalie Baye), sister Suzanne (Léa Seydoux), brother Antoine (Vincent Cassel) and Antoine’s wife Catherine (Marion Cotillard). The question is, are they willing to listen? (Subtitles)
