Kristen Stewart is excellent as Maureen in Olivier Assayas's magnificently unconventional Paris-set ghost story.
Grieving the recent death of her twin brother, she continually visits his Paris home, determined to make contact with him. Maureen, a Personal Shopper by day and amatuer medium by night, spends nights in Lewis’s dark and rambling mansion, hoping he’ll keep their oath to each other to get in touch from the other side, whoever goes first.
Amid all the shifting mirrored surfaces and hazy ambiguities of Assayas's bewitching, brazenly unconventional ghost story, this much can be said with certainty: Kristen Stewart has become agreat actress. The former 'Twilight' star was a standout feature of Assayas's last film, 'Clouds of Sils Maria', quietly and confidently standing alongside the skill of Juliette Binoche.
