A LATE QUARTET – PLUS LIVE PERFORMANCE

13 Jul 2026

GREAT FILM – GREAT MUSIC

Join us for a live performance by The Slate Quartet of Beethoven’s 14th String Quartet opus 131 in C sharp minor, accompanied by an intro by performer and composer Simon Rowland-Jones about this notoriously challenging piece, and followed by the 2012 film about a quartet struggling with the very same piece of music.

Film:

A LATE QUARTET (15)

For 25 years, the Fugue, a string quartet, has wowed music-lovers with its skilled performances. However, as the musicians prepare to celebrate a milestone season together, cellist Peter (Walken) drops a bombshell on his comrades (who include Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener): he has Parkinson’s disease and must soon retire. In the fallout from the shocking announcement, competing egos clash, long-simmering resentments bubble to the surface and marital infidelity rears its ugly head. An outstanding ensemble cast lends weight and depth to the film’s melodramatic script, and the result is insightful and emotionally satisfying. Insightful and incandescent, this is a film for both music lovers and movie lovers.
