FRAMING FUTURES AT CHICHESTER CINEMA

Chichester Cinema is committed to nurturing the next generation of professionals through its collaboration with the University of Chichester. Each year, we provide structured placement opportunities for students, including second year 25-hour placements for Humanities undergraduates and 20-week placements for third-year Business and Marketing students. These opportunities offer meaningful, hands-on experience within a busy independent cinema and charitable organisation, allowing students to apply the knowledge gained through their studies in a real-world setting.

Students become part of the Cinema operations, contributing to a wide range of activities including marketing campaigns, audience development, media communications, research, and developing editorial content for film programmes, and drawing on research to create accessible and informative copy for diverse audiences, also creating digital content to support audience engagement and promote the Cinema’s activities across social media platforms. They gain insight into how a small organisation balances commercial activity with a strong social mission.

As well as developing practical and transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, time management and project coordination, placements help students build confidence, professionalism and independence. Working alongside staff gives them experience of different workplace environments and expectations, strengthening their employability and enhancing their CVs. For many students, the placements provide valuable networking opportunities, clarify future career aspirations and offer a supportive introduction to the world of work. Chichester Cinema is proud to play a role in helping local students develop the skills, experience and self-belief needed to take their next steps into employment and the wider cultural and creative industries.
