Michael Holley, Head of Department, Creative & Digital Technologies reveals the film production strengths of the new £35 million building at Chichester University’s Bognor Campus.

After 180 years as an educational provider, this is an exciting time for the University of Chichester and the Department of Creative & Digital Technologies as we settle in to a brand-new specialist technology building on our Bognor Regis Campus. This £35 million development demonstrates the University’s commitment to investing in our student experience through world-class facilities, underpinning our offer of a unique and relevant selection of practice led programmes.

The building is shared with our new Engineering & Design department and will support local and regional businesses looking for higher skilled graduates. For those in the creative sectors it will act as a beacon, able to offer support and access to world leading technologies that can enhance the quality of their content. We have a number of unique spaces rarely found outside of the major cities. This includes a 270 square meter Sound Stage designed for film production, motion capture and one of only 3 spaces in the south east able to record full orchestra. The Sound Stage is complimented by a 70 sq m dedicated Green Screen stage for VFX and Compositing work. The building also houses a professional standard Recording Studio, 9 high quality Edit Suites, Animation Studio and our industry standard Master Suite for Dubbing and Colour Grading.

The building, officially opened by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their recent tour of the county, is home to 200 creative students this year with the aim of growing the population to beyond 600 in the years to come. It will be a vibrant and energetic place to learn, underpinned by a high-class educational experience.

Designed by industry for industry, our courses have been created to suit the needs of a range of creative sectors to provide the skills and experiences that will help launch careers across the media and beyond. Our focus is on content creation for the creative industries such as film, TV, animation, games and advertising. Our tutors offer real industry experience and include BAFTA and Oscar winners. Students get the chance to work alongside, and be taught by, a team of award winning professional content creators including Animators, VFX artists, Directors, Journalists, Composers, Writers, Cinematographers, Producers and Editors. Our aim is to attract high-end commercial productions in to the facility so our students can get direct access to work experience and placement opportunities on their doorstep.

The Creative & Digital Technologies Department (formerly film & media) has always been a firm supporter of New Park Cinema, holding our Graduation Screening event there for the past 10 years. We hope to be doing the same for the next 10!
