Every season Chichester Cinema Film Club for 15-25 year olds, celebrates the magic of repertory cinema – bringing iconic, much-loved films back to the big screen and giving audiences the opportunity to experience them together, exactly as cinema was intended.
Repertory cinema plays an important role in keeping film history alive. While new releases come and go, great films can continue to speak to audiences decades after they were made. Re-screening classics allows older generations to revisit films they love, while introducing younger audiences to movies that have shaped popular culture, filmmaking and the way we understand the world. It creates a connection between generations and ensures that important pieces of cinematic history are not forgotten.
There is also something wonderfully authentic about seeing an iconic film in a cinema. Watching Back to the Future or The Shining on the big screen, surrounded by other people who love film, is a very different experience from watching it alone at home. The atmosphere, the shared laughter, the suspense and even the conversations afterwards are all part of the magic. Repertory cinema is about preserving that communal experience and celebrating films as cultural experiences, not simply something to stream.
This season begins in September with Back to the Future, the beloved 1985 classic that has become a defining part of popular culture. In October, we turn spooky with another 1980s classic, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining – a landmark of horror and one of the most influential films ever made.
Film Club is about much more than the films themselves. It is a welcoming, inclusive space where people can meet like-minded film lovers, make friends and feel part of a community.
Membership and tickets are just £3.50, and free pizza. The bar is open for refreshments or feel free to bring your own. Screenings take place on the first Monday evening of every month creating an affordable and friendly regular night out.
