Aru Otoko
After divorcing her husband, Rie (Ando Sakura) returns to her hometown and marries a reserved young man named Daisuke (Kubota Masataka). They find their modest happiness together until one day, Daisuke tragically dies in an accident.
One year later Daisuke’s brother Kyoichi (Mashima Hidekazu), appears, and on seeing Daisuke’s photograph, he reveals that the man whom Rie married wasn’t Daisuke but somebody else. Who was the husband Rie loved and had a family with?
In her quest to uncover this man’s true identity, Rie contacts lawyer Kido (Tsumabuki Satoshi) to find out who he actually was and why he became somebody else. As Kido investigates, he confronts various social issues prevalent in Japan, and the fake Daisuke’s past is revealed. Based on Hirano Keiichiro’s best-selling novel of the same name, this has been highly praised internationally.
Screening as part of The Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme - Unforgettable: Memories, Times and Reflections in Japanese Cinema.
