A young drug-addled writer approaching the bottom of his descent submits to two months of agonizing detox at a treatment centre in Minnesota.
At the age of 23, James Frey (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) woke up on a plane to find his front teeth knocked out and his nose broken. He had no idea where the plane was headed nor any recollection of the past two weeks. An alcoholic for ten years and a drug addict for three, he checked into a treatment facility shortly after landing. There, he found much more than traditional treatment. He found similar broken souls yearning and fighting for a better life.
This is a story of recovery and love, a story of friendship and hope. This is an account of his six weeks in rehab. Directed by UK director Sam Taylor-Johnson, who is married to the lead actor… you may remember their first partnership – ‘Nowhere Boy’ (2009).
