‘I Love Lucy’ was the most watched show in the United States in four of its six seasons. It starred Lucille Ball and her real-life husband Desi Arnaz. Sorkin’s film explores the controversy surrounding her membership of the Communist Party as well as her often unstable marriage to Desi.
Kidman’s transformation is extraordinary making her as unrecognisable as she was as Virginia Woolf in ‘The Hours’. Sorkin brings his customary snappy dialogue as well as the skilful direction exhibited in ‘Molly’s Game’ and ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’. Javier Bardem is brilliant as Desi while great support comes from J.K. Simmons and Nina Arianda.
