Film audiences are now aware of the lack of women film directors. In 2016, Female directors accounted for only 7% of the top 250 films at the US Box Office. This course, which is part of our celebration Women’s History Month, looks at some of the best films directed by women.
In the first session, Ellen Cheshire will offer a brief historical overview of female directors and will focus on three international film directors, Jane Campion, Mira Nair and Deniz Gamze Erguven, discussing how they have made an impact on global cinema. Ellen Cheshire is a film writer and lecturer whose new book on Jane Campion is out later this year.
In the second session, Rosemary Coxon, the Cinema’s Education Officer, will look at some of the best work of three of the most recent American and British film Directors.
