To commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January) we are screening two films on 2019’s theme ‘Torn from Home’. Both films show how collective and individual bravery saved the lives of so many Jews from the Final Solution.
The first is ‘The Danish Solution’ which is a semi-documentary account of how the Jews of Denmark were evacuated in one night, an evacuation involving the whole Danish nation and inspired by the King himself.
We are privileged to have the first showing on the South Coast of the new film 'Forgotten Soldier' which tells the story of how a Dutch Jew, Sally Noach rescued Jewish (and non-Jewish) prisoners from Vichy internment camps thus saving hundreds from deportation to concentration camps.
We are delighted that Lady Irene Hatter, Sally Noach’s daughter, will be attending the screening and will participate in the Q/A about the film. Forgotten Soldier was the winner of the Audience Award at the UK’s Jewish Film Festival 2018.
These films show how acts by an individual or a nation, here demonstrated by Sally Loach and Denmark two shining examples, could save thousands to escape from the Final Solution. Sadly few nations and individuals did.
Please join us for refreshments in the bar area following 'The Danish Solution'.
There will be a retiring collection at the end of the day. All proceeds will go to Chichester Marks Holocaust Memorial Day (CMHMD) to help pay for future commemorations and events. Please give generously.
