This film is not currently scheduled to screen at New Park.
The film follows the 2000 K-141 Kursk submarine disaster and the governmental negligence that followed.
Some of the crew survives the initial explosion, including officer Mikhail Kalekov (Matthias Schoenaerts), whose pregnant wife (Lea Seydoux) and child are waiting back home. As the sailors fight for survival, their families desperately battle political obstacles and impossible odds to save them.
Unfortunately, their rescue is complicated by bureaucracy between Russia, France, Norway and Britain, with British navy chief David Russell (Colin Firth) attempting to convince Russian officials to accept foreign aid. This is a punchy and poignant piece of film-making from Vinterberg with several riveting set-pieces. Also stars Max von Sydow and Peter Simonischek.
