After a terrible personal tragedy grief-stricken Edee (Robin Wright) retreats to the magnificent but unforgiving wilds of the Rockies. She sets herself up in a remote cabin but she is unprepared for the challenges ahead. She can’t chop wood or shoot a gun. The harsh winter and local wildlife take their toll until Miguel (Demián Bichir) shows up to nurse her back to health and teach her valuable survival skills.
The cinematography is extraordinary – could it be anything but, given the location? Wright’s internalised performance is phenomenal and she commands this compassionate, poignant and affecting film. Given the restrictions we have all undergone, ‘Land’ offers simple lessons and stunning landscapes that may feel like a welcome balm.
