In Detail

Ed Saxberger (the wonderfully craggy Willem Dafoe) is an amiable, unassuming former New York poet (who published an anthology of poetry which quickly slipped out of print) who now works at the post office.

Then one day he is accosted outside his apartment by an eager and flattering NYU student, who explains that his book changed his life and over time introduces Ed into a coterie of twentysomething admirers who anoint him as a rediscovered genius. Flattered by the attention, and particularly charmed by actress Gloria (Greta Lee), Ed starts to reappraise his life. This adaptation of a 19th-century novella by Arthur Schnitzler is a thoughtful, witty, wistful, yet unromantic look at a lost idea of downtown New York.
