Isaac (Allen) is a comedy writer and would-be novelist dating Tracy, a 17-year-old student (Mariel Hemingway), but he falls for Mary (Keaton), the highly-strung, neurotic journalist that his married buddy Yale (Michael Murphy) is seeing on the side.
