Essentially the film is about the calamitous, all-swaggering rise of Marty, including an interaction with ageing, married film star Kay Stone (Gwyneth Paltrow) on smoulderingly good form, who is seduced before being financially hoodwinked. The payback for Marty is a gloriously humiliating.

Chalamet turns in an Oscar-worthy performance with a titular character that is by equal turns an arrogant, abrasive people user while also being completely lovable and endearing.
