A billionaire businessman in search of fame and social prestige decides to make a unique, ground-breaking film. To achieve this goal, he hires the best of the best: a stellar team consisting of famous filmmaker Lola Cuevas and two well-known actors who boast not only an enormous talent, but also an even bigger ego: Hollywood star Félix Rivero (Antonio Banderas) and aging theatre thespian Iván Torres (Oscar Martínez).
They are both legends, but not exactly the best of friends. Through a series of increasingly hilarious tests set by Lola, Félix and Iván must confront not only each other, but also their own legacies. If awards season gets up your nose, with its self-congratulatory speeches and luvvie back-patting, this playful and wildly entertaining Spanish satire on the filmmaking process is the perfect antidote.
Seeing Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas show off their comedic talents is a pleasure, and the farcical final scenes will leave viewers on a high. The long-time collaborative filmmaking team of co-writers and co-directors Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat, along with co-writer Andres Duprat, strike just the right chord and deliver a gem that is funny, insightful, and quite entertaining. The film was very well received at last year's Venice Film Festival.
Our thanks to Curzon Films for this film.
