A terrific fictionalised adaptation of the 2008 French TV documentary Roubaix, Commissariat Central, which followed a determined police officer and his colleagues in the economically depressed town of Roubaix, near Lille.
We see them deal with a range of crimes, in particular the shocking homicide of an old woman. Desplechin plunges into the lives of the marginalised, the destitute and those who have to fight to even be part of the working class. They are the ones that come into contact most often with the police, led in Roubaix by the experienced and quiet but firm Captain Daoud (played by Roschdy Zem).
Among the potential suspects are the neighbours who report the crime, Claude and Marie (Léa Seydoux and Sara Forestier). Cast: Roschdy Zem, Léa Seydoux, Sara Forestier, Antoine Reinartz. “An affectionate homage to crime cinema …” - Playlist. (Subtitles)
