Kelly Reichardt | 2022 | 107 MINS
A sculptor preparing to open a new show must balance her creative life with the daily dramas of family and friends, in Kelly Reichardt's vibrant and captivatingly funny portrait of art and craft.

In Detail

Lizzy (Michelle Williams) is not a famous artist; she is a sculptor who makes ceramic figures of women in her garage studio. She tries to finish her pieces before an upcoming gallery show, but life often intrudes on her art.

She also works for her mother Jean (Maryann Plunkett) at a Portland art college giving her access to the kiln, run by the ever-cheerful Eric (André Benjamin). This is a funny and incisive drama about the artist's life - it illuminates the numbing grind of real life when you are trying to make art - reuniting Reichardt and Williams (‘Wendy and Lucy,’ ‘Meeks’ Cutoff,’ ‘Certain Women’) to absorbing effect. Reichardt is a director who has not made a bad movie in 30 years.
