A queer filmmaker (Sundance discovery Hannah Einbinder) is hired to direct a new instalment of a long-running slasher franchise and fixates on the prospect of casting the 'final girl' from the original movie who has now become a Norma Desmond-type recluse (played with her usual subtle sexiness by Gillian Anderson).
