The two doctors reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride (Jessie Buckley) is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement. This is Maggie Gyllenhaal’s second films as director – after 2021’s ‘The Lost Daughter’ – and what we are seeing here is a brave and very skilful filmmaker coming to the fore.
