In Detail

When the man she loves, Holger Olsen (Mortensen), goes off to fight in the Civil War, Vivienne Le Coudy (Vicky Krieps) must fend for herself in a place controlled by a corrupt Mayor (Danny Huston) and crooked land baron (Garret Dillahunt).

When Olsen returns from the war, he and Vivienne must confront and make peace with the person each has become.

Krieps brings to this Western a particular femininity missing from most in the genre; a softness that is singular to her and her style of performance, and the film is much richer for it. This is a beautifully shot and sombre film about an old-school hero.
