La Scala Milan

Davide Livermore | 2019 | 160 MINS
Italy
This fantastic new production of Giacomo Puccini’s 'Tosca' follows the publication of musicologist Roger Parker’s critical edition for Ricordi.

Roger Parker will offer a brief, pre-screening introduction to his edition of Puccini’s Tosca, which Riccardo Chailly used as the basis for these performances at La Scala. The edition includes passage that were part of Puccini’s original score for the opera’s world premiere, but were subsequently omitted from future revivals.

In Detail

The Music Director Riccardo Chailly presents Puccini’s work in the light of this most recent research, building on the great success of La Scala’s 'Turandot', 'La Fanciulla del West', 'Madama Butterfly' and 'Manon Lescaut'.

Giacomo Puccini’s masterpieces have so far been presented in versions that often bear the burden of tradition. With the return of Director Davide Livermore, already highly acclaimed for 'Attila', this inaugural version of 'Tosca' will be first and foremost at a music festival. Combined with the stunning stage set design of Giò Forma and the powerful voices of Anna Netrebko and Luca Salsi, this thrilling spectacle is not to be missed. Sung in Italian with English subtitles
