& Sons

In searching for a boiler man, Hori Takayuki (Iura Arata) comes to her and asks if he can work for her. Hori, who doesn’t have a place to live, begins to live with Kanae and work at the bathhouse.
Wanting to know her husband’s whereabouts, Kanae hires a quirky private Detective Yamasaki Michio (Lily Franky). One by one, Kanae discovers unknown facts about her husband, as well as the truth in the persistently lingering fragments of her childhood’s memory and Hori’s ultimate reasons for helping her.
Based on the legendary manga ‘Undercurrent’ by Toyoda Tetsuya, which received enthusiastic acclaim both in Japan and abroad upon its release in 2005, distinguished filmmaker Imaizumi Rikiya skilfully portrays the emotions that have long been locked away in people’s hearts. The music is composed by Hosono Haruomi, who received the top award at the Cannes Film Festival for his work on ‘Shoplifters’ (2018).
