On September 16th we paid tribute to Roger Gibson on the event of his last festival as Artistic Director. Since its launch in 1992, Roger’s Festival presents a stimulating, thought-provoking and eclectic range of foreign language, British and US films and documentaries, together with talks and events which would be the envy of any major city.
His Festival has epitomised what every festival should seek to achieve – to give a platform to filmmakers telling extraordinary stories from all over the world.
Importantly, he has provided unrivalled choice to all of our loyal attendees who seek more than the latest Hollywood blockbusters, who want to see different worlds, and hear different voices. His Festival has also coalesced our community of film lovers, providing a source of friendship and unbridled joy from shared experiences on the big screen. With creative vision, community spirit, doggedness and unstinting dedication, he has transformed and deeply enriched the cultural life of Chichester.
We would like to thank Tony Palmer, John Coldstream, Debbie Ford and Roger’s wife Jo for their fulsome, heartfelt and very funny speeches and the Cathedral’s Cloisters Kitchen and Garden for providing the perfect setting for this celebration of Roger’s achievements.
