Certification

Under three-year-olds

Any children/babies aged three and under can attend our Baby Makes Two screenings only.

In these screenings, the lights are not fully dimmed, the sound is lower, and parents can relax in a more accommodating environment without worrying about disturbing others.

There are a few spaces at the front for prams, but it is recommended to bring a car seat .A great way for parents to meet before and after socially and to introduce your little ones to the magic of cinema.

Children between 3 and 14 years of age

U-rated films
In general, the content of a U-rated film is deemed suitable for audiences of all ages but we ask parents to exercise some judgement if bringing very young children to a U-film if it is likely to also appeal to adults and to be mindful of not impairing the enjoyment of others. We reserve the right to ask parents to leave if their children are unable to sit quietly.

Children of 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult
Nearly all of our screenings have ushers in attendance, but in the event of no usher availability, and with a duty of care in mind, we cannot grant admission to unaccompanied children of 11 and under.

Relaxed Screenings
These are for U-certificate films aimed specifically at very young audiences.  In these screenings the lights are not fully dimmed, the sound is slightly lower, and parents can relax in a more accommodating environment without worrying about disturbing others.

PG-rated films
PG is an advisory classification. Content is generally deemed suitable for general viewing by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The content is mild in impact. PG films contain material that a parent or carer might need to explain to younger children.  A PG should generally not unsettle a child aged around eight, although parents and care-givers should be aware that some scenes may be unsuitable for more sensitive children.

We would request children under the age of 12 be accompanied by someone of 18+

12A-rated films
A 12-year-old can attend a 12A film on their own before 7pm. No one under 12 may be permitted to attend a 12A cinema screening unless accompanied by an adult. The content may contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12. Adults planning to take a child under 12 to a 12A film should consider whether the film is suitable for that child perhaps by checking the BBFC’s content advice for the film in advance.

For all those 15 years and above

15-rated films
No one younger than 15 may see 15-rated content in a cinema

18-rated films
Suitable only for adults. No one younger than 18 may see 18-rated content

Guidence from the BBFC

Students

Student tickets are limited to one per student. Photographic identification (student union card or student email address) may be checked before admission to the auditorium.

Carers

Carers of disabled customers are entitled to a free ticket if the person they are accompanying can show a valid Cinema Exhibitors’ Association Card (CEA card) or a locally issued disability card.

PROOF OF AGE/STATUS

Like all cinemas, Chichester Cinema is legally required by the local authority to follow the BBFC age ratings to maintain our operating license.  Consequently, Chichester Cinema cannot allow admission to any person who, in the opinion of an authorised employee is under the certification age required by the BBFC and cannot prove that they are at the minimum age required.

For verification purposes, we reserve the right to request photographic identification (e.g. a driving licence or passport) for entry into 12A, 15, and 18 certificated films.

If you or your child look younger than the certification rating requirement, please think ahead and bring photocopies of birth certificates together with a form of photographic identification connecting the name on the birth certificate to the customer.

Passports and driving licences are also acceptable.
