Film Education

Schools

Providing a unique Film Education experience to the local school community.

OUR FILM EDUCATION PARTNERS

Our 16-strong education team is made up of ex-teachers, academics and journalists who are all passionate about film and sharing their love of it with adults and children, putting on around 50 talks, and workshops every year.

We are always on the lookout for people from the local community who would like to be involved in our work, particularly anyone who would be keen to give a talk on an aspect of cinema, whether it be a particular filmmaker or a genre or a period in film history, or who might be interested in leading an event for schools.

We are, at present, especially keen to increase the proportion of women speakers we have!

If you would be interested in giving a talk, leading a school event, or helping out preparing and running events, please contact Patrick Hargood, the Education Officer, at education@chichestercinema.org

HOW WE WORK WITH SCHOOLS

The cinema has education at its heart. We offer free, tailor made educational experiences for both primary and secondary levels (aimed at pupils studying at Key Stage 2,3, GCSE and A Level).

Our cinema is a place where film in its many forms can be explored by all ages and our team loves nothing more than working with teachers to bring the curriculum alive and to explore literary works through the prism of film, sharing how they have been adapted or modernised for a film audience.

This can bring a fresh, new perspective to a text and can often make something challenging more accessible. Our school events are also about deepening children’s knowledge and appreciation of film.

THE CINEMA HAS EDUCATION AT IT’S HEART

We reach more than 1000 pupils annually and the schools with whom we collaborate include:-

  • Chichester Free School
  • Chichester High School
  • Bishop Luffa
  • Regis School
  • The Petersfield School
  • Felpham Community College
  • Oakwood School
  • St Philip Howard Catholic School
  • St Joseph’s Junior School
  • Bohunt Liphook
  • Bourne Community College
  • Southbourne Junior School
  • Chichester College
  • Chichester University

If you would like your school or college to participate in our Schools programme, please contact Patrick Hargood at: education@chichestercinema.org

“The session at the cinema was a really excellent way to introduce the text (Frankenstein) to the students and they were enthused to read the novel itself. The cinema team clearly put so much work into these events and have such a depth of knowledge, we look forward to returning for more sessions”
Chichester High School
“The workshop really set the scene brilliantly and it was pitched perfectly for our Year 6 students of Oakwood School”
