Summer 2025

This Summer, we just cannot go past the blockbuster of the season – ‘F1’.

Brad Pitt plays a Formula One race driver who comes out of retirement to mentor and team up with a young driver. Whether you are a motor sport nut who watches every race, or someone who only sees cars going around in never-ending circles, this film is for everyone, and a guaranteed thrill ride.

As an appetiser for our ‘A Greener Screen’ season in the Autumn, we team up with the UK Green Film Festival to show two wonderful environmental documentaries in the first two weeks of this season. To complement these, we also bring back ‘Ocean with David Attenborough’ and present a film which has been much requested – ‘Wind, Tide & Oar’, which focuses on engineless sailing through rivers, coastlines and open seas.

For lovers of top-quality classic cinema, we are all lucky to be going through a period of time where there are some wonderful remasters of films such as John Schlesinger ‘Darling’ which turns 60, Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Barry Lyndon’ turns 50, Akira Kurosawa’s ‘Ran’ turns 40 and Milos Forman’s ‘Amadeus’ which was first released in 1984.

In addition to these, we have also programmed ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Blade Runner’ for our Film Club screenings – first Tuesday of every month, as well as a super rare big-screen presentation of Werner Herzog’s ‘Fitzcarraldo’ to complement the re-release of ‘Burden of dreams’ which is known as one of the best documentaries about the making of a film.

Our Film Education team led by the tireless Patrick Hargood present three more illustrated talks this season. Professor Maggie Andrews looks back at ‘1945 and After’ a momentous period in cinema; Dr Tommy Lynch of the University of Chichester will explore the different ways in which the church is depicted in comedy, horror and dramas in ‘Clergy in Crisis!’, and finally, Andrew Vance will look back at their careers of ‘Astaire, Rogers & Berlin’.
