A talk reflecting on the impact on the environment of filmmaking

The great outdoors has always proved a natural theatre for the movies, with many films posing profound questions about our relationship with animals, eco-systems and one another. More recently, the rise of the Green movement has prompted a surge of films addressing environmental issues across a variety of genres, from documentary to sci-fi and romance.
In this talk, Nick Johnston-Jones of the Education Team considers the impact of film making on the environment for both good and bad, from the earliest days of silent cinema to the modern age, looking at some of the unintended consequences of such movies as well as celebrating their enduring power to delight and inspire audiences, remind us of our place in the natural order and alert us to danger.
