To mark the publication of ‘The Look of the 1960s: Barbarella and the Pulp Pop Comics’, its co-author Hugo Frey will explore the zany time when avant garde comics became international movies.
Following the controversial success of Roy Lichtenstein's comic book pop art and the publication of Jean-Claude Forest's comic Barbarella, cinema screens were filled with new pulp pop inspired films.
This talk will tour from Roger Vadim and Jane Fonda's infamous ‘Barbarella’ to include films such as Joseph Losey's ‘Modesty Blaise,’ William Klein's ‘Mr Freedom,’ as well as B-Movie classics, ‘The Killing Game’ and ‘The Tenth Victim.’
This uniquely groovy happening for Chichester will also include very special contributions from John Coldstream on Dirk Bogarde in ‘Modesty Blaise’ and Patrick Hargood, son of Losey's stills photographer. We are also delighted to present a rare screening of ‘Modesty Blaise’ and a special 35mm screening of ‘Barbarella.’
