Barbie is living her best life in her perfect Barbie world, partying of an evening with Barbie political leaders, supreme court judges and Nobel laureates, and a castrato chorus of beach-bunny Ken clones when suddenly she is assailed with the terrible thought of dying.
She must journey to the real world outside to sort this out and so she and Ken arrive in scuzzy Santa Monica in time-honoured fish-out-of-water style.
Dismiss this film at your peril - it is definitely not made for 8-year-olds and their Barbie dolls.
At its core, Greta Gerwig’s (‘Ladybird,’ ‘Frances Ha’) film delivers a surprisingly strong emotional hook in Barbie’s conundrum of being caught between her idyllic plastic life and the ever-changing, complicated real world.
We are delighted to include a one-off Baby Makes 2 screening for parents with little ones under one year of age.
