Special Q&A Event with director and Chichester favourite Tony Palmer

To commemorate Gustav Holst’s 150th anniversary, we present Tony Palmer’s enlightening documentary on this extraordinary composer.

In Detail

Born on the 21 Sep 1874, this was no ordinary man.

He taught himself Sanskrit; lived in a street of brothels in Algiers; cycled into the Sahara Desert; allied himself during WW1 with a 'red priest'; hated the words used to his famous "I Vow to Thee My Country"; his music - especially 'The Planets' - owed little or nothing to anyone, but he was an exceptional composer who died broken and disillusioned, before he was 60. With his 150th anniversary, alongside his special connection with Chichester Cathedral (Holst's memorial stone is in the Cathedral), we are pleased to screen this very important film, the first ever about this extraordinary man.
