A young woman released from prison struggles to regain custody of her children in this powerful indictment of the social care system.

In Detail

Molly (Posy Sterling) is a single mum who has just been released from four months in prison only to discover that her own children whom she left in the care of her mother, have been handed over to Social Services.

With nowhere stable to live, she is told she can’t simply pick them up. It’s as though all the air has suddenly been sucked out of her world. This vital drama vividly evokes the frustration and screaming anguish of dealing with an impenetrable System which sees Molly’s efforts to be reunited with her children thwarted at every turn.

Filmmaker Daisy-May Hudson documented her own experiences in the personal documentary ‘Half Way’ about homelessness in 2015. Informed by those experiences, this fiction feature is all the more powerful; the emotions are raw, but they are approached with balance and sensitivity and a strong respect for people who are trying hard, even if they don’t always succeed.

This Cathy Come Home-style film demands to be seen.
