The family, headed by the lovely and gracious matriarch Kay Miniver (Greer Garson), endures the departure of the father Clem (Walter Pidgeon) for the beaches at Dunkirk; the discovery of a wounded Nazi pilot; the death of the daughter-in-law in an air raid; and the entry of the son into the Royal Air Force.
Shot in the middle of WWII about a family surviving the beginning of that war, this terrific film was the winner of six Oscars, including Best Picture, Director (William Wyler), Actress (Garson), Supporting Actress (Teresa Wright), Screenplay and Cinematography.
