Michael Fassbender is perfectly cast in the lead role – cold, calculated and seemingly unruffled even when the odds are stacked against him.
We are introduced to our protagonist by his own voiceover praising himself and his unique work skills, so it is a surprise to see one of his ‘hits’ not go quite to plan. The result is an engaging and very enjoyable film that is part revenge thriller and part black comedy. Look out for the assassin’s choice of attire – not a Prada suit as we have grown accustomed to, but a Glastonbury style bucket hat, described as German tourist “camo,” because “no one wants to approach German tourists.” Another unexpected highlight is The Smiths’ soundtrack that backs the film, and there is also a delightful turn from Tilda Swinton as one of the people on the killer’s hit-list.
