Focus on the Documentary

Iconic director Werner Herzog reveals extraordinary anecdotes about the filmmaking process. Featuring interviews, archival footage and never-before-seen excerpts.

In Detail

This is an examination of the incredible life and filmmaking career of the German auteur. Herzog interestingly says that he only dreams when he’s been driving for hours at a time, causing him to hallucinate butterflies and other things around him.

Radical dreamer is an apt description for the man, the myth, known as Werner Herzog. His distinctive voice and dream-like films have made him a pop culture icon. There is much revealed in this documentary. Did you know that Mick Jagger originally appeared in ‘Fitzcarraldo’ before it had to be reshot?

Or that it took 2005’s ‘Grizzly Man’ for Herzog’s popularity to explode. Fans will appreciate the retrospective, while the uninitiated will be taken by the subject’s eccentricity. We are also screening ‘Aguirre, Wrath of God’ and ‘The Enigma of Kasper Hauser’ in February.
